So the official trailer for Beauty and the Beast premiered just over a week ago. Since then I can’t stop counting down the days until I get to see it.
Beauty and the Beast holds a special place in my heart. As I’ve mentioned, back in the day (way back in High School), I played Lumiere in my school’s (low budget) version of Beauty and the Beast. I remember being cast by our, albeit insane, drama teacher and crying for days. I was devastated at not getting cast as Belle, as any sixteen-year-old would. However, after months of preparation, countless hours of rehearsal and a few insane pieces of dance choreography, the musical was one of the most fun things I’ve ever been apart of (shout out to some amazing people). Now I can reminisce about those days, and still sing every word to every song.
Anyways, the original animated BatB was amazing, but have you seen the trailer for the 2017 live action? If you live under a rock you can find the link here.
Here’s what I’m most excited for:
-
The Music!
The live action remake means that every song will come to life with brilliant dance numbers and amazing vocals. I’m going to have a hard time not singing in the theatre!
-
Um, EMMA WATSON.
Enough said. Really.
Sometimes your favourite movie is remade, or your favourite book is made into a television show or movie and sometimes the casting is terrible. This is NOT one of those times.
Emma Watson is literally the perfect Belle. Cannot wait to see how amazing she is in bringing this role to reality.
-
The Leading Man
I cried for days when Dan Stevens died on Downton Abbey. I don’t even want to talk about it.
Obviously, he is going to be an amazing Beast.
-
The Character we all LOVE to Hate
GASTON!!
‘Don’t I deserve the best?’ He does, and so do we. That’s why he’s our Gaston.
-
A Disney Princess who Does More than Chase a Man
Emma Watson has said that she wanted Belle to be someone, to do something. So they made her an independent, intelligent and strong woman inventor. It’s nice to see Disney moving away from their princesses’ only accomplishment being landing a man.
6. The Rewrites
Everyone knows that things are going to change from both the musical version and the animated version to make this story complete. I’m excited to see the 2017 take on BatB, and see the small and large things they decided to change. Sometimes change is bad, but in this case I think we should all be thrilled.
7. The Costumes
Can we all go back to a corset and gown wearing French countryside? Every poster, trailer and teaser shows the phenomenal work done by Oscar winning costume designer Jacqueline Durran. Her previous work includes Pride and Prejudice and Atonement, so you know that every little detail will be on point.
-
The Sets
Grand Ballrooms, sprawling castle, little town. The list goes on, and the set will be every bit as magical as the costumes, cast and script. Oscar nominated production designer Sarah Greenwood was in charge of making this magical world come alive!
What are you most excited for? I just can’t wait for it to come out on March 17!
